I am running Intrepid 64-bit on a laptop. I have VMWare server 1.07 on which I run a Windows XP professional guest that used to be the base OS on this laptop. I run this most of the time in full screen mode.

Occassionally when I exit from full screen mode, the Ubuntu desktop is gone, all I have on the screen is the background graphic and the mouse pointer.

I haven't figured out a way to recover from this condition, I just have to power cycle because nothing I do on the keyboard seems to have any effect once it gets in this state.

How can I troubleshoot this problem?

By the way this is an upgrade from Hardy. This environment worked perfectly under Hardy, I only started having this problem after the upgrade to Intrepid.

Should I post this question somewhere else? Maybe upgreades instead of desktop?
