View Full Version : [ubuntu] No Delete Confirmation

Hey,
I'm running Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex which is fully updated.

Earlier, when I used to delete a file, I had to confirm the delete operation in the window that would pop up. But now, my system does not ask for this confirmation anymore.. It sends the file to thrash directly.

Under the Edit>Preferences menu & in the 'Behaviour' tab 'Ask before emptying the Trash or deleting files' option is checked.

I have not made any changes myself since I'm new to Linux...

Thank You

Yeah I went back and re-read that post, bummer... I wonder if there is applet that will do it... It seems that that could be a bug...

I did find this tho it is deleting while in the Terminal: Deleting Files (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/DeletingFiles)

and this tho still in Terminal mode:
How to display prompt before removing/overwriting files/folders on Ubuntu in Console mode (http://www.zolved.com/synapse/view_content/28641/How_to_display_prompt_before_removing_overwriting_ files_fold)

Here's some Pro's & Con's on the issue... Delete file in Nautlus - no warning (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/95853)

Hmmm...like you said, the console is not much of a problem for me. The second link does describe my problem exactly & since a bug has already been reported, I think I'll live with the problem until a solution presents itself..

After all, this is the least important of my issues... :-)

Thanks for all the help man...

No problem... I am very new to Ubuntu so I'm trying to absorb everything I can...

With Windows I could pretty much always solve my problems, so for me this is like starting over but I do like it better than Windows...

Dude,
You stole the words from my fingertips :P . Being a recent windows ex-user I am struggling with Ubuntu myself but honestly, its much better than I thought & I love every line of code in Ubuntu!!!! Hurray....
