I have a problem getting audio to work in ubuntu..
i just installed 8.10 yesterday and everything works fine except the audio witch seems to only send sound in surround-mode with the jacks in front being fornt left right, back left right (i might be wrong on that part) but i dont get any vocals on music og very little sound when playing video files.

how do i get it reconfigures to 2 ch. mode?

For all your sound needs and issues the answers are here.

Here are a few options to choose from from fixing pulse to disabling it and using asla, or replacing pulse with esound.

First fixing pulse

Disabling pulse and using alsa (Before deciding to remove pulse you should read the warning here as to what the result could be).

and another one going the same route here

Replacing pulse with esound

There are more but this gives you some alternatives that are being used.
