EEE PC 900HA... trying to get online...

I just got a 900HA and installed Ubuntu (8.04) on a partition using the USB Stick method... it seems that nothing is working Wired/Wireless to get online... I've tried unplugging the AC Adapter and removing the battery, but nothing has worked... is there something else I need to do before I can get my 900HA online?

Are these issues solved in 8.10? or would I have to use these fixes also?
I would uninstall Ubuntu right now, but I'm determined to get it to work because Uninstalling GRUB is a pain in the **** (already been through it once).
