so as you might know i need a new laptop and i picked one

here (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9050279&type=product&id=1218012519873)

but the one problem is the case on the back of the screen...(click on one of th eimages or use the 3d view)

how can i get rid of it?

also during boot i get this stupid thing saying "Gamers' Republic" instead of where the HP or Dell (examples) logo would be before the OS/Bootloader loads

i can disable this in BIOS correct?

You might be able to reduce the amount of time the splash screen is displayed in the CMOS setup utility, not sure if you could completely remove it though.

I would think that, like my own MOBO, it has an option in BIOS that says something like "Display Logo" and a check box.

And you WANT to get rid of the design on the back? Or the logo?

I'm sure there are covers you can get, but I say be proud of it. It looks cool. Don't let "The Man" get to you!

Although, a leather cover (with studs) for your laptop would also look pretty cool.

anyone know of any skins i could get anywere?

the guy at best buy said to go to the asus site and get skins from there but they dont sell any (they also appear not to sell laptops directly but only through stores like best buy (on the Asus site there is the same laptop with a different case)

Well I always highly recommend (why can I never spell that word correctly?!) a Dell XPS M1530. Mine runs great, good options, etc. and it comes with Ubuntu preinstalled if you want. See this page (http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?oc=dydwhu1&c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&kc=segtopic~linux_3x) for Ubuntu or here (http://www.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/xpsnb_m1530?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs) for Windows.

I'm proud to be a nerd. In the '70s and '80s nerds were a downtrodden underclass. Now we are ruling the world, baby. Without nerds the whole system would stop.:D

Er... yeah...

Interestingly enough I don't think you'll find a PCI slot behind your average LCD... Or for that matter a processor socket...

It's just a skin. Obviously that's not what you'd find after removing the panel.

I was just saying you could use a skin like that one cover over the "nerdy" design the OP was complaining about.

The best thing I can think of is to avoid dropping it. Failing that, get something with a solid-state drive. Those things are really rugged.
