Hi All,

Is there any tools in Ubuntu that will allow me to run a full back up of my hard drive / file system.

Thanks very much

John

You can use the built-in tools in Ubuntu with the command line to create backups. Try these on for starters:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=35087
http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/backup
http://www.hddsaver.com/content/26/

If you're looking for a tool with an interface you can try these:
sbackup: http://onlyubuntu.blogspot.com/2007/03/backup-and-restore-ubuntu-system-using.html
TimeVault: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/TimeVault
QuickStart: http://quickstart.phpbb.net/index.php
Home User Backup: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HomeUserBackup

If they don't work, or if you're looking for something different, post back and let me know :)

For simplicity Id say take a look at Quickstart (Link in the thread above ;) )

It's no problem, I hope one of those programs will suit your needs :)
And a merry Christmas to you, too!
