I don't use ftp a ton so I'm not sure if this would be considered good at all but nautilus can browse ftp and sftp all by itself, just go places->connect to server, you can even bookmark servers.

The best ftp client I have used is gftp, it's easy to use and just works well. I have tried other ftp clients but gftp has never let me down.

Another vote for Filezilla here - it's cross platform and is constantly improving both features and interface.

I agree with binbash - it's worth grabbing from getdeb to get the latest version.

ncftp on the command line and gFTP or FtpCube (http://ftpcube.sourceforge.net/) in the GUI. You can also try FileRunner which is a nice file manager with FTP support.
