As with many people - I am new to the use of Ubuntu and are having some difficulties.
I have installed Ubuntu 7.04 and are wanting to play my mp3 files using rythmbox, but whenever I try downloading and installing the GStreamer extra plugins, it will download the first 60 or so files then come up with the following message:

The repository might be no longer available or could not be contacted because of network problems. If available an older version of the failed index will be used. Otherwise the repository will be ignored. Check your network connection and the correct writing of the repository address in the preferences.

Then following that:

http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/feisty/universe/binary-i386/Packages.gz: 404 Not Found [IP: 91.189.88.40 80]

I dont know weather my version of Ubuntu being an older one is affecting that or its just my computer.

Note: In the Add/remove window, when I have the GStreamer file selected, it notes down the bottom:

This application is provided by the Ubuntu community.
GStreamer extra plugins cannot be installed on your computer type (i386). Either the application requires special hardware features or the vendor decided to not support your computer type.

Much help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Kieran

Yes, I do have a copy of 8.10 and have tried it on my notebook, but it doesn't seem to work. I haven't tried it on the desktop yet, but I might have to. The only problem is, I'm going to have to reinstall the older version again, update, and then order a new copy.

Thanks anyway for replying.

@Kieran the feisty is nolonger supported. it has past its life cycle hence its repositories are closed.. remember that every version of ubuntu save LTS version is supported for 18 months.. feisty was released on april 2007. so has past its support time limit.. your best bet is to either upgrade to gutsy or hardy (hardy is an lts and would be supported for 4 years) or downgrade to an older lts version dapper drake which in still be supported.

Yeah, I do have an Intrepid (8.10) disc and have installed it fine onto my desktop (not like my notebook :() and all mp3's are working fine, along with all other updates and programs (including awn, which I've been trying to install with 7.04)
