hello everyone,
I am building a computer for my mother in law as a christmas present and I would like for her to be able to use some compiz features, however I keep getting an error message while trying to change the desktop effects to either normal or extra. I am using ubuntu 8.10
a window will pop up saying that it is searching for drivers and then it will attempt to use the desktop effects before reverting back to having no effects with an error message that the desktop effects could not be enabled.
I have installed the proprietary amd/ati drivers that ubuntu suggested and they are enabled. But seeing as i am pretty new to linux, this is about as far as i can troubleshoot on my own. If anyone has any suggestions it would be much appreciated, seeing as christmas is right around the corner i would like to get this fixed soon.
