Hi everyone,

I am trying to install Ubuntu on a second partition in able to dual boot it with XP Pro. I have attached a picture of the error that keeps occurring.

This is what I have tried so far:

Well, the computer boots from the CD, I choose "Install Ubuntu", the bar loads, and then I get this screen I attached. I left it for around 5 minutes to see if it will work and nothing happened. The screen went black after a while.

I have read about such errors occurring with SATA drives but mine is an IDE. Some users said it was because of a floppy drive, and I do not have that. Others said that turning ACPI off from the BIOS should do it. I did that and nothing changed.

I would really appreciate your help since I am new to Linux.

Thank you,

I have the exact error when I try to install Ubuntu 8.10, after that I try to install it as a Windows App, but I always have this error: "Could not access CD-Rom. Please verify that it is not in use".

Could somebody help me?

Thanks,

Ed

I tried installing it as a Windows app too, but when the installation finishes and the computer reboots, I get the same error as I have in the screenshot - same original error!

I wanted to try Ubuntu because I heard it is pretty good. If I can't even install it, then that's pathetic. Looks like I am sticking to Windows!
