Upgrade has screwed up my mplayer

Hi all I run 8.10 on a p4 machine with 1 gig of memory. I upgraded from 8.04 and everything works great except for my mplayer. It runs runs but either the player flickers or it runs like molasses. I tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it, but nothing worked. Please help me figure it out, thanks all.:(

Go into Preferences and pick another video drive.

I did as you suggested and it still doesn't work, I am guessing I will have to download the updated version from the mplayer site and go from there, but thanks anyway.
