Why is it everyone who hangs out in the Ubuntu channel I never recognize? It seems like a totally different social environment than the forums. A lot more disparaging also. Anyone else have similar experiences?

There's a #ubuntuforums IRC channel too.

I never go in #ubuntu anymore, it frustrates me

I'm in there everyday (usually idle), but I never see any disparaging conversation. In most cases I've gotten help faster from IRC than the forums. Some people just get a little irritated when people spam their questions because they aren't getting an answer right away.

My name is dnyy there and on every other IRC network.

Dunno - I've gotten good help there the couple of times I've asked for it. Works for me.

I prefer #ubuntu-offtopic

I idle in #ubuntu but I never look there, I get tired of all the help requests.

I hate #ubuntu. It's too crowded and watching people answer support questions isn't that entertaining. I'd recommend #ubuntuforums, lots of us from UF are in there ;).

Did you hear of /list?
If you are logging the server channel, you can have every channel logged that way, then go back and grep the channels you want to see :D

My experiences with #ubuntu have been mixed. They've either been really helpful or completely unresponsive. Still, it's worth a shot if you have a question.

I'd definitely look elsewhere for entertainment and conversation.

I tried IRC Ubuntu and it was a bit too censored for my taste. Sorry I just call them as I see them.

#ubuntuforums seems fine to me.

Heck, I even got a couple Xmas-ify requests there for peoples' avvys...

Will check out the other two soon.
