Hi folks,
Canonical is working for several months on Gnome's look and feel. Any reports or screenshots on the progress available yet?
For the last several releases when we asked a question related to refreshing the L&F we were told that it's too early to talk about it, and then a few days before the release - that it's too late and the schedule goes to the next release.

Well, they've already started, the advanced fast user switch applet is the first fruit.

Thanks. I dunno what you mean by "advanced" fast user switch applet, perhaps it's the one which I have in interpid.
Anyway, a few designers working a few months - I'd expect quite big changes, so far it's like nothing new to me. Don't mean to be rude but when you think several people working each one of them like 8 hours/day for several months and you get almost no news that sounds to me like they're either unproductive or they work in a cathedral style. Could be both of course.

Sounds like you really don't know how it all works, sorry. See this (http://www.markshuttleworth.com/archives/162), maybe it'll enlighten you.

... and keep in mind that "few designers" is just "few designers". Other platforms have thousands, and look at their progress.

If you mean the new desktop experience engineering team then, see what Mark said about this during the recent Ubuntu Open Week:
(11:52:34 AM) sabdfl: there are lots of roads, hopefully they all lead to linux eventually!
(11:52:45 AM) sabdfl: hmm.... maybe!
(11:52:58 AM) sabdfl: we have been hiring, for months, designers and user experience guys
(11:53:03 AM) sabdfl: it has taken much longer than i hoped
(11:53:18 AM) sabdfl: that team will be in place in jan / feb, i imagine
(11:53:34 AM) sabdfl: whether their initial work will make a dramatic visual impact on Jaunty, i don't know
(11:53:45 AM) sabdfl: i know that other work, on the user experience front, will land
(11:53:55 AM) sabdfl: but i'll keep some surprises in store till later ;-)
(11:53:56 AM) sabdfl: next!

ah thanks. The ppl r waiting for a new & cool l&f from profi designers. Although the fast-switcher which duplicates several features is perhaps a good idea, we're still waiting for what we've been waiting for so long.

OK. Then check this new post (http://www.markshuttleworth.com/archives/253) on Mark's blog, for a taste of what is coming maybe ;)
