I'm guessing most people use Firefox or Opera but what is your backup browser for when things are going wrong?

Links, because—at least for me—the quintessential backup browser situation is when X won't start...

Lynx, for the same reason darsu stated.

+1! That or I just pop in Puppy Linux and use Seamonkey on it when things go horribly wrong.

Elinks for when X is giving problems.

If it's just firefox that is having issues (never happened), I would use epiphany (I use it on my netbook).

Elinks actually saved my *** just an hour ago.

Some update caused all my keyboard strokes to be tripled and made my mouse behave strangly, making Arch unusable.

Thanks to elinks, I know what had to be done.

Firefox and Links.
Normally use Opera on Tux or Chrome on Windows.

Firefox, never had to use an alternative. If Firefox fails I have to use Konqueror I guess.

Opera as my primary browser (on Linux at home and XP at work), and then I use IceWeasel/Firefox as my secondary browser on Linux, and Maxthon on XP.

None. Well, at least not on my main computer. Safari, technically, if you want to count my Macs.

Konqueror or Arora if needed, but generally I never do need them. Konqueror's installed by default and I installed Arora just to see what it's like, hoping that I could use a browser that isn't as ugly as FF in KDE.
