Booting Ubuntu from DVD?

Can you boot up Ubuntu from a DVD instead of a DVD if the drive still reads DVDs? At first I didn't think it mattered, but now I am beginning to wonder.

If you have a dvd drive you should be able to boot from both, cd and dvd. It shouldn't matter what the OS is.
