add this repository:
http://ppa.launchpad.net/openoffice-pkgs/ubuntu/ intrepid main

It should work, but open office 2 should be good enough for now, OO3 really doesnt offer any security or anything like that over OO2.

I am discovering that Oo3 does not have file associations for the file extension odt by default in Ubuntu unless the document was created by Oo3. 2.4, being native to Ubuntu, seems to have that configured. I was going to search the forums for how to associate Oo files to open with Oo.

I was hoping it would be available soon as a regular upgrade/update.

That would be the easiest way for most.

To that I agree. In the meantime, for those who do not mind the adventure, there are ways to have it.
