View Full Version : [ubuntu] ok i need to install ubuntu on a old laptop, i need help

hello everyone, i have a laptop that i dont really use and want to switch it to ubuntu, i completely want to remove windows and switch to ubuntu. the laptop has 512 mb RAM, 80 gb HDD, no working cd drive, working internet connection and windows XP, now how would i go about installing ubuntu and uninstalling xp?
i also have a 1 gb flash drive if i might need it

I'd try unetbootin:

http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/
(hard disk or usb)

If that doesn't work for some reason try the netboot approach:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/FromWindows
(-->'Windows NT/2000/XP (using Grub)') *but you'll need the alternate-install iso

You can even install it on the usb flash drive:
