Howdy folks,

I've decided to join The Tribe, and am attempting to install Ubuntu (or a flavor thereof) on my laptop, a Sony Vaio PCG-9L1L. I have plenty of RAM & hard disk space, so that's not the issue. The installation hangs halfway through the GUI installation sequence. I've tried disabling ACPI, I've tried Xubuntu, nothing seems to work.

Anyone able to help?

Much thanks,

Ainandil

How old of this machine? P4, 1G memory, any idea of what VGA card here?
Dual boot or clean install with 8.10? I tried on Mac, I found out it is easier let installer takes over rest of free space.

Thanks much for the reply!

The system is a P4 2.8 gHz with 1 gig of RAM currently running Windows XP Service Pack 3. According to Window's Device Manager, the video card is a Radeon IGP 345M.
