I've got 2 HDDs in my PC. One is for Windows and the latest one I've got is for ubuntu. Now, I'd like to run Ubuntu as my major OS but some times I need to run windows aswell. Is it possible to make my installed windows xp to run inside linux using virtualbox or do I have to make a new install to make the whole thing work?
It would save so much time and effort if it could recognize the installed windows instead of making me have to do a fresh install.

Yes, this is something that can be done, although I've never done it myself. All I can do is direct you to the VirtualBox user manual located on the download page: http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads
The information you seek is located in section 9.9 beginning on page 122.
Keep in mind the warning that appears in this section:
Warning: Raw hard disk access is for expert users only. Incorrect use or use of an outdated configuration can lead to total loss of data on the physical disk. Most importantly, do not attempt to boot the partition with the currently running host operating system in a guest. This will lead to severe data corruption.

Seems to be quite risky... I think I'll leave my idea for the moment. Anyway, thanks for the fast reply :)

There are two threads for how to do this , both linked from the virtualilzation mega thread.
