i tripped over the following URL: http://pfam.ccbb.re.kr/cgi-bin/gethmm?name=Transketolase_N&type=fs

I went to it and found a bunch of random numbers and crap. Then I was thinking, what the hell is this.. so I tried to find some more files hosted, but found to nothing. After some further snooping i proved nothing.

my reason for making this post is the following: Why is this data found at a url registered as .kr???

that particular example of a file looks like a makefile or something...

According to the homepage of the URL you posted:

Pfam is a large collection of multiple sequence alignments and hidden Markov models covering many common protein families. Pfam version 22.0 (June 2007) contains alignments and models for 9318 protein families, based on the Swissprot 51.7 and SP-TrEMBL 34.7 protein sequence databases.

Pfam is produced by the Pfam Consortium, a collaboration between researchers at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute near Cambridge UK, the Stockholm Bioinformatics Center at Stockholm University in Sweden, and HHMI Janelia Farm near Washington, DC in the US.

Not sure why it is hosted in South Korea but there are also corresponding sites at Cambridge, Janelia, Stockholm and Paris. (Don't know the France connection either).

As I said, I went to the index of the URL you gave: http://pfam.ccbb.re.kr

I've now discovered (by wading through a machine translation of the data available at http://ccbb.re.kr) that KISTI, as referred to in the title of the previous URL, is actually the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Korea_Institute_of_Science_%26_Technology_Informat ion_(KISTI)).
