Don't see the point of Cloud OS at all. Yes it has the advantage of being accessible anywhere, as long as you have an internet connection. It has that one advantage, but it has many disadvantages and much less freedom:

- Need to trust third party. if their site goes down for a while, you're stuffed and you'll be in deeper doo if they go out of business. That would never happen though, would it? Internet companies as safe as banks ... oh hang on ...

- Needs good internet connection otherwise you're going to have a sloooowww experience no matter what speed of computer you have or what servers they have.

- I keep backups of my data and also of my OS. If my hard drive went pop, that's ok by me (except I'd have to buy another one at some ridiculously low price).

Clouds ... insecure, risky, slow, restricting and pointless.

its an os this is online, no operating system, no installation of softwares, etc.. everything is almost online..

I can't help feeling that OS - operating system - is a bit of a misnomer, since it's really just an interface to online applications and not actually operating your hardware.

Need another acronym. OAI online app interface or something.

ya reckon? or maybe not?

I'll have to agree with that. I never refer to those as an OS, and I never will. They are more like application portals. Something one would use as a main page when loading Firefox (or whatever browser)... I guess they could keep calling it OS as long as it means something like Online Suite, and not Operating System. But even then, the initials are already used and they should pick something else.

Hmm, condenced FAIL.

I don't think anyone is being condescending, it's just misleading to call it an OS. I was all excited about an alternative OS that I could tinker with until I realized that it was just online apps.

That said, it's still loads of fun and something I'd like to do to make my browsing experience more fun and prettier.

I think the page the OP created was elegant and lovely.

I was thinking of starting a project like this of my own, using the "Mount FTP Server as Filesystem" tutorials on these forums to keep thing synced.

I gots an assload of ideas, but seeing as how all I know is xhtml/css/javascript, in no way will it be done anytime soon. :P
