I am new to Ubuntu and I am trying to install a classroom server setup. I am finding conflicting instructions though. On this page:
http://www.edubuntu.org/Download

I am instructed to click on a link and "Don't forget to select the "Desktop Edition" release and tick the checkbox for the alternate desktop CD on the download page!"

The problem is, when I click on the link... there is no such check box available.

Did something change and the instructions didn't get updated?

Thanks!

Matt

Middle to bottom corner has a red text under even more options.
http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download
which takes you here-
http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/downloadmirrors#alternate
I see what your saying though the educational download seems to be a desktop version, if you have at least 512 ram it should be okay.

Aha... thank you! I was looking for a "check box" to "tick"!

:)

So, if I want to install a classroom server, do I need the alternate CD? The computer I am installing on has plenty of memory so I am not worried about that.

I downloaded the "server edition" but not the "alternate" CD. Aside from the .iso being bad (it won't pass the defect check and I have DL it twice!) when I hit F4 [Modes] it doesn't say anything about the LSTP option there. (Unless it is "minimal system"?)

Sorry... been out of the Linux world for a while so the lack of consistent terminology is throwing me off a bit!

Thanks,

Matt

I have no clue about a server install I have only just used the regular distributions, but there are a lot of people on this forum who are knowledgeable in this area. Make sure you burn the ISO at no more than 4x and as is no extra folder.

Thanks again for the input.

Have you had bad luck burning iso's at higher than 4X? Or is this just something with this distro? I have burned a lot of iso's both DVD and CD on this burner and haven't had any consistent problems. I will see if I can throttle the next burn though... thanks for the tip!
