Hi,
I have a problem with Ubuntu 8.10 LiveCD and connecting to WiFi.

So... i have a Desktop-PC [connected to internet via lan, and he's sharing the internet to my laptop by USB WiFi - http://www.tp-link.com/products/product_des.asp?id=47 ].

When i click the WiFi icon in the taskbar, i see my WiFi network, but it can't run properly without manual IP / DNS inscribing.
[So - the gateway (Desktop-PC) = 10.0.0.1, Laptop = 10.0.0.2, Mask = 255.255.255.0, DNS = Polish TPSA 194.204.159.1].
And when i apply this, i don't have internet connection :(

Sorry for my english ;] I hope that you understand this.
If you need more information - just post :-)

BTW. I connected my laptop to a lan, and downloaded Wicd, then configured it and trying to connect via WiFi, but i have 'Validating Authentication' all time. This is my 2nd network program (standard Ubuntu Network Manager, and Wicd) , who can't properly connect to my WiFi network.

Any ideas?

maybe this package will help you, download here: http://packages.linuxmint.com/pool/main/m/mintwifi/mintwifi_1.8_all.deb

this package adds some wifi drivers, you can use the application somewhare in the System-> part of the menu. The name in the meny starts with the letter "W"

Downloaded and installed this.
As you told i found this on System -> Sterowniki Windows dla urządzeń bezprzewodowych (Windows drivers for wireless devices).

I installed windows drivers for my Intel Pro Wireless, and drivers for my TP-Link (USB WiFi - internet 'sharer'), and nothing :(
Net doesn't work...

Well your drivers seem to be installed and active.

What soft of encryption are you using? WEP? WPA2?

Try to deactivate the encryption and connect without it. If you manage to connect without the encryption we know your wlan net is working, and there is only a configuration issue.

What makes me little nervous is this line:

wlan0 Interface doesn't support scanning : Resource temporarily unavailable

It seems as if your wlan area was not powerful enough to reach your wlan card...or some other communication issue with the router and the wlan card.

I'm using WEP encryption.

I deactivated enctyption and the net doesn't work.

Notebook was 50cm far from usb wifi... so impossible :P
