I want to remove Ubuntu 8.04from a dual boot system ( dual boots with XP but on seperate drives ) and then install Ubuntu 8.10 ( or whatever the latest version is numbered ). Whats the best way to go about this ?

Reason is problems with latest series ATI graphics card ( hopefully I will get wide screen support in the latest version for the ATI graphics card ). Basically its a mess and I have backed up everything I want.

Also when is the latest update avilable and from where ?

Instead of removing Ubuntu 8.04, you can upgrade your ubuntu 8.10 without doing anything.

FYI:Ubuntu 8.04 is a Long Term Support Release.I Prefer you to take all the backup form both the operating system and format then reload Ubuntu 8.04LTS, and 8.10 is not a Long Term Support Release.

I also want to reinstall because My Kubuntu 8.10 is bent, Ctrl/Alt/fx Keys don't work.

Should I install from CD 'over' the current installation, or blow the old one away first?

According to me its not good practice.I prefer you to format the whole thing then install Ubuntu or any other flavor once you have finished your backup.

To answer the first couple of replies I was having major problems due to graphics and inability to get widescreen.

Now 8.10 ininstalled and I have widescreen ( 1920x1200 ) so I am happy.
