Hello,
My CD drive doesn't work on my laptop.

Should I use WUBU?

Will there be any problem, can I get Ubuntu 8.10 loaded on my machine with the option to load Windows XP or Ubuntu at startup?

Yes you can use wubi to install ubuntu, this will allow you to choose at boot what os to boot into.

Another option that you can use to install ubuntu dual boot with Ubuntu on its own partiton is to use unetbootin (http://lubi.sourceforge.net/unetbootin.html)
