I am currently running Ubuntu Studio in Hardy but would like to take a look at KDE4.2. Is this possible, or would this require updating to 8.10?

Can I just install a KDE4.2 desktop? How?

If KDE 4.2 is not available in the Ubuntu studio repositories, then your best bet would be install Kubuntu 8.10 or Ubuntu studio 8.10. Or dist-upgrade to Ubuntu studio 8.10. Trying to install KDE from the 8.10 repos in Hardy (8.04) would likely lead to a lot of dependency issues that could break things.

The 4.2 Beta is not available via the Kubuntu Experimental PPA for Hardy...even if it were--the Beta was quite buggy on my 8.10 rig.

Thanks to tommcd and skripka. They confirmed what I was worried about.

Hardy has given me very few headaches. I'm not convinced I'm curious enough about KDE4.2 to move from Hardy to Intrepid as many in these forums have been unhappy updating to Intrepid. The LiveCD for Intrepid looks to be the better option.
