hi i am new to ubuntu trying to make the switch over from windows vista...so i got the live cd going but when i start my computer up and try to run the demo it freezes up..actually anything i select besides boot from first disk freezes up i was wondering if anyone can help

Freeze-ups generally occur because of one or more of the following reasons: Not enough RAM (for a live CD, I'd recommend at the bare minimum 256 MB of RAM, but more like 512 MB or 1 GB for better performance) The CD image got corrupted during download or during the burn process Hardware failure of some kind A graphics card Ubuntu didn't detect correctly

ill try redownloading and burning...im running a 1gb ddr ram hp notebook the dv6244 to be exact

I think you'd be better off installing with the Alternate CD. Read this; it might help you:
