I have ubuntu hardy installed as a dual boot on a compaq v6000 with vista. Im new to linux and ive been fiddling a bit too much and now things dont work properly. I want to reinstall ubuntu, how do i do this without creating new partitions...any help would be appreciated, I dont want to proceed yet until im sure im not going to mess up my hard drive...thanks in advance

boot the live cd and this time choose 'manual' partitioning...Tell it to use the current hardy / (check 'format' option). It will automatically use the existing /swap

good luck

add: you might also want to back up your /var/cache/apt/archives with AptOnCd--it'll save you the hassle of re-downloading all the updates
