Does anyone else notice that the LTS versions are said to be supported for 3 years on desktops, but mysteriously disappear? I don't really think it's a good idea to just abandon supported pieces of software. Shouldn't the LTS release be kept in the store and the downloads section until the next LTS release comes out? I mean, it's just kind of redundant to keep supporting something for so long if you don't even make it available for download anymore and let it fade into obscurity.

It's still right here (http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download)?

My point is that not all LTS releases are. Dapper disappeared a year before it's LTS successor came into existence, and Hardy has already disappeared from the shop.

No it hasn't.

See my attached image, but ignore my poor Gimp skills.
That's not the shop...

It has actually disappeared from the Canonical Store (http://shop.canonical.com), though I'm not quite sure why

Perhaps they did not see much of a point in keeping so very similar products in the shop, as opposed to XP and Vista. There was almost a riot when Microsoft tried to discontinue XP support.

I don't call Kubuntu 8.04 "similar" to Kubuntu 8.10 at all.

I didn't even know the shop existed. I never went to ubuntu.com or anything. I got my .iso from distrowatch. I stand corrected.
