There are a few hidden folders i have such as .icons that I would love to get at quickly from the applications menu. I know how to add applications to the applications menu (by way of right click, then edit menus etc) but I'm not sure about how to add locations. I hope you guys understood what I was trying to ask.

The menu to the right of applications is "Places." You will want to add the location there.
To do so, open the file browser (places>[username]) Navigate to the folder you want to add the (Bookmarks>add bookmark)
that folder will show up in the places menu and the left pane in nautilus.
