I really didn't liked the PDF support on Ubuntu 8.10 (I preffer opening the pages direcly on browser with Adobe Reader). Anyway, I tried installing it but even the DEB file doens't work. What am I doing wrong?

Enable medibuntu repos (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Medibuntu) and you will find it in those as acroread (at least it is there for hardy) Medibuntu is certainly worth having available for all sorts of multimedia apps as well.

Acroread (Adobe Reader) is in the Medibuntu repositories. To get it...

First, install the Medibuntu repositories if you haven't already done so, and enable them in "Software Sources".

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Medibuntu

Then go to Synaptic, search for, and install the mozilla acroread plugin. That will install not only the Firefox plugin, but the Adobe Reader 8 package as well.

You should then be all set.

Edit:

You'll notice that my link and ajgreeny's are the same for the Medibuntu repositories. Apparently I was composing at the time that he posted.

Synaptic didn't show anything like "acroread", but after enabling Medbuntu I could install Adobe Reader 8 through Adobe's website.
Again: thanks a lot!

Yes, now that I think about it, I couldn't find it either on first pass. But, after I rebooted, there it was. I'm not sure why it behaved like that.

Anyway, I'm glad you got it worked out. If you're satisfied with the solution, you can mark the thread "solved", from the thread tools at the top of this page ^.
