Over the past several updates, I have the problem of the update manager locking up. The warning icon will appear informing me that I have updates; I click on the icon, starting update manager, select the updates, apply them, it requests and receives my password, states that it is downloading packages...and then grays out.
It stays that way permanently. I am relatively certain that it is not a network issue, because other network traffic can pass without difficulty. I can manually get the updates using apt-get, but the icon persists, as does the locked-up gui.
What do I do?
