Ok, I'm getting ready to switch from Ubuntu on my laptop to having Ubuntu dual booting on my new desktop. I'm ordering a second HD today to put into the pc for the dual boot. If anyone has a link for a FAQ or how-to about setting it up that way, please post it.

My question has to do with the power of my desktop. It's an Intel quad core extreme (qx6850 i believe) with 4GB of pc8500 Ram which I'll be bumping up to 8GB after the holidays. It also has the Nvidia 9600GT, but I found a compatible driver for it on Nvidia's site already. How much Ram can Ubuntu handle? I believe I'll have to use the 64bit version of Ubuntu (correct me if I'm wrong), but I wanted to make sure that it will run. If anyone has any documentation for me to read or knowledge on the subject, please share.

Thanks!

I'd download and install Ubuntu 8.10 amd64 (Alternate CD) and follow this guide to dualboot with 2 hard drives:

The 64-bit would probably be the easiest route. You can get up to 64GB with a 32-bit kernel but, it requires some special kernel options. This might be useful for you to decide: Ubuntu with 4GB+ of memory (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=855511)

Thanks for that - would have thanked you in the HowTo itself, but it wouldn't let me...
