Is it possible to use SSH to access a Dell running Linux using a Mac Laptop.

Of course it is :D

Mac's come with SSH installed anyway, so that's not an issue :) For the Dell however, you'll need to install openssh-server (apt://openssh-server) and then configure your router to forward the SSH port to your Dell :)

I believe there's plenty of guides for this kind of thing if you have a look around :D
