View Full Version : [gnome] File Name Encoding Issues on Auto-Mounted Network Drive

On my network hard drive (D-Link DNS-323) in Ubuntu 8.10, I can browse to it under Places->Network etc. to view my media files in Samba and all is well.

I edited the /etc/fstab file to make the drive mount automatically. It does so, however, a number of the files now have strange little images in the file names and the words "(invalid encoding)" after the file name extension which makes the files themselves useless. Any that I correct are then messed up when viewing in Samba so clearly there is something out of sync in the encoding of the names between the two ways of viewing them. How can this be corrected so that the encoding works no matter how the files are accessed? Thanks!
