I'm talking about the wikipedia scandal.

Big Brother is everywhere it seems in the UK.

http://iwf.org.uk/media/news.250.htm

"According to Wikipedia about 95% of the UK internet users are affected. All those users have the same ip-adress according to Wikipedia, thus a ip-ban for one users who misuses the edit feature can cause a large amount of users being unable the use the edit feature."

This is translated from here.

So what do you guys think about it?

It's really nothing new, it will have it's hour on the BBC then they will be back to complaining about the government.

Wow, that's strange. I never knew the Brits actually were all under basically one I.P address! I hope I'm not!
At the rate it's going, soon you won't be able to view some African tribes or Asian ones anymore!

Don't believe everything you read on the internet :p, everyone needs and has a unique IP address. It is the url of the rock bands Wikipedia page that was blocked by some UK ISP's.

Not exactly just 1 IP. It's basically 1 IP per proxy server that each ISP has placed in their networks to filter the access of their users. And to clarify, they're blocking all editing from anonymous UK users on that list of ISPs. Registered users can continue to edit, if they can access the page.

More information on Wikipedia. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Administrators%27_noticeboard/Major_UK_ISPs_reduced_to_using_2_IP_addresses)

Edit:
Whoops.. Mistake in copy/paste. Link corrected.

Hmm, that's a very touchy subject. Couldn't the ISPs have just blocked the images on the page, or was it highly descriptive of the album art at one point?

Highly immature and stupid move by the British ISPs and shows their lack of understanding about how data on the Internet actually works. Anyone that is going to want to see that image, is going to be able to, due to Wikipedia mirrors, or even just a Google Search will bring it up.

I also like how, instead of working with Wikimedia and sharing their concerns, they have (without warning) blocked access to a portion of Wikipedia, which I think is utterly unacceptable. If they keep this up (block more of the Internet) I'll be VPN'ing my access out of Britain into a country with vaguely sensible ISPs (I'm sure I saw a service that does just this for about £5 ($10 USD?) per month).

Big Brother in the uk is becoming more and more powerful. i'm all for banning child porn, and related sites, but BB is talking about reading every email, or soon to be, and ID cards are coming soon. and what with all the CCTV, etc, we'll soon have to look 'freedom' up in a dictionary to realise what we're all going to be missing out on!

I can't believe this! It seems like they have no intention of removing the image from their block list! Does this mean that all the other places where the image can be seen will be blocked too? (It can be found in hundreds of music sites and for example Amazon, where the album is still being sold). Oh, and what about the thousands of people that actually have the album? Can they be sued for possessing it?

This is just another example of how absolutely ridiculous laws are passed by the governments all around the globe (there's been similar development in Australia and other countries). It's sad, but unfortunately most people seem to be either unaware of the issue or just don't care about it... :(
