no ubuntu OS option

Hi All,
I have two issues,
Issue 1:
-----------
I tried to install Ubuntu 8.10 using a DVD I got with a magazin called "Linux for you".
After Installing it, while booting I am getting only 2 options ,
1. Ubuntu8.10, memtest ...
2. Windows Xp

There is no option to boot Ubuntu OS.
I tried it 3-4 times, also with Kubuntu, XUbuntu variants.

Please help.

Your DVD may be having problem while looking your options.
