I have set up Kdevelop under Ubuntu 8.10, selected the 'simple hello world' environment and tried to run the built in Hello World programme. I use this environment regularly on Suse 11, and expected the message asking me permission to run 'Automake and Friends'. I let it run them, only to discover a broken world! No kidding, the most basic C programme of them all, the introduction to programming for thousands, can not run on Ubuntu 8.10 because of a 'permission denied' setup problem. For me, I'm afraid it is back to Suse where all works fine, though I really would like to have explored Ubuntu further.
