Hello, i have an old laptop Dell Inspiron 2500 and i wanted to install a light system, which i did: 7.04 via the alternate cd.

All was going smooth, the OS worked fully and graphics were crystal clear.
:)

Recently i wanted to upgrade to 8.04. The liveCD installation could not start on normal mode. I tried safe graphics mode and the installation was a succes. But i didn't liked the graphics in safe mode ,neither did they changed after the full install! :(
7.04 : 1024x768 + sharp & clear graphics.
8.04 : 800x600 + blurry grapichs.
Why? Is the graphical server more complex in 8.04 than in 7.04?
My Vcard is incorporated (4MB), RAM - 190MB, Pentium III 900MHz CPU.

I was thinking that maybe i need to install through the alternate CD...?

Try rebooting in Recovery Mode and select Fix X Server.

Your hardware specs are on the lower side to support full blown Ubuntu. Even if the installation is ok, the performance might take a hit. I recommend Xubuntu for u.

Stick to Hardy Heron LTS which is much more stable and supported for 3 years. The next release 8.04.2 is out anytime now.
