OK I am a very green n00b to linux and am having a major issue. I tried using virtual box(VB) to create a virtual machine on my xp pro system. After running VB and setting up the virtual machine and starting the ubuntu install the I got an end now pop up against a black background. The computer reset and now wont boot in XP. It will go to the splash screen and the I get a BSOD for about 1/2 sec and then a black screen and no activity. Tried in safe mode and last know good config. Please help!

Also if i try to run ubuntu I cant get online with a directly wired DSL modem. The modem shows no ethernet connection when plugged in but if its plugged in to my wifes laptop it works fine. I have a "realtek rtl 8139/810x family fast ethernet NIC"

Thanks in advance for any help that can be provided.
