How do I build a flash site with Ubuntu 8.10?

I am wanting to start learning flash in hopes of being able to make a flash site. What programs are out there for making flash sites with Ubuntu? If you give a program and you know of a site that was made using that program please give a link.

I know that I can run it in wine. And if I had it or the money for it I would. Is there not an open source linux version of flash?

There is http://f4l.sourceforge.net/ (http://f4l.sourceforge.net/) (they were at version .01 last time I checked. And there was another project that had most capabilities of ActionScript 2.0. But, in the final analysis: Adobe hates Linux and also thinks Microsoft will play nice with SilverLining, dot-net and the new XML doc format. Adobe and MS are working hard to come up with a "new" font standard.

Personally, I think JavaFX to make widgets will bridge all platforms and perform better, with maybe the Linux development kit being released in Feb. 2009.

You can also look at a commercial product for under $200 called Anime Studio Pro (for Linux) that exports Flash, but no ActionScript.

Afaik, there is no development environment for Linux that rivals something like the CS3/4 IDE that you can download for the windows platform. Actually, I think the latest that wine supports would be Flash 8 Studio, which doesn't really have great ActionScript 3.0 support.

You could use the Flex 3 SDK, which is cross-platform, to compile AS3 code into a .swf file, and you can then embed that .swf into a web page, but you won't have the drawing tools that come with CS3/4, and that can make it rather difficult (although, it depends on what you're doing).

i had this same question once. no one ever told me anything good(except that you can export openoffice presentations in flash) but my brother had friends that did flash in linux, so i knew there was a way. and he found that forum post
