review of DI-624S

So far, I am happy with the performance of DI-624S and used for storage sharing across the wireless network.
I have;

- Watched HD movies using 160GB FAT32-formatted Hard-drive wirelessly, works fine
- Read/Write test using 450MB music folder, took approximately 13 minutes, slow than expected.

Pros:
- Fine storage networking/FTP/personal web-server/print-server
- Fine wireless network connection (used WPA2-PSK and tested WPA + 802.1X)

Cons:
- Read/write speed decreases when web-browsing AND watching movie off HDD through wireless
- SuperG 108MB/s only works with compatible D-Link products
- Lack of end-user manual presentation, ordinary people may find difficult to setup
- The unit gets very hot sometimes. Putting finger on the chip may burn your finger :)
- I wish there was built-in RADIUS server within the unit OR with attatched USB drive
- Read/write is limited to maximum of approximately 1.30MB/s due to CPU (200MHz).
- Only support USB1.0 and USB1.1. USB2.0 is NOT supported.
- Only support FAT16, FAT32, Ext2 file systems. NTFS is read-only.

Conclusion:
- Not suitable for 'big' network storage, but transferring >2GB files are OK.
- Shame that 108MB/s only works with compatible D-Link products.
- Perfect for small backup storage or watching movies off the attatched hard drives.

Yeah, it's a nice little unit and it fits my purpose so I can't actually say it's 'bad',
but I don't recommend this gear for people who demands high-capacity network storage.
