View Full Version : [kubuntu] 8.10 System Settings Display weirdness

Ok, so I'm running 8.10 on KDE4.

I have an ATi Radeon.

I manually set my resolution to 1280x1024.

However, each time I log in, it defaults to a higher resolution (1600x1200 or so).

What's odd is that when I click on "Display" under "system settings" It suddenly will change it to the correct resolution.

This confuses me.

On top of that, I see nowhere to specify my monitor, and I'm stuck with a 60Hz refresh rate.

If you can help me solve either one of these issues, I'd appreciate it.

It not saving your changes sounds like a bug, might want to report that on KDE's bugtracker (http://bugs.kde.org) and/or Launchpad (http://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu).

You can automate the change, or limit the max resolution to what you want it to be, though. There are several ways; see this wiki entry (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Config/Resolution). It's sort of technical but should get you started. If you botch up your xorg.conf file you can always fix it in recovery mode, or Ctrl+Alt+F1 to a tty and do 'sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg'.

I have a feeling it's driver related. would that still count as a bug?

Aye, thanks.
