Ionization is when a molecule becomes charged due to the loss or gain of electrons.

Dissociation is when a molecule breaks down into smaller parts - these smaller parts could be ions

Ionization is the process in which an atom loses or gains an electron, thus becoming an ion.

Dissociation is the process in which an ionic compound splits into smaller molecules, ions, or radicals.
