View Full Version : [gnome] gnome-main-menu freezes desktop (but not system)

8.10, fresh install, two weeks old.

I got rid of the default panel menu and replaced it with gnome-main-menu, to conserve panel space. However, once in a while, clicking on the main menu icon causes my UI to freeze.

My programs continue to run, panel applets like the CPU monitor continue to update, and I can move the mouse cursor. But the keyboard is unresponsive, and nothing responds to being clicked nor mouseover'd.

Ctrl-Alt-Backspace restarts, but next time I click that menu, it freezes again. Rebooting fixes the problem, for a while.

How can I debug this? Thanks!

Same issue only with 8.04.
I've googled but not found any solutions.

Sorry for resurrecting the dead here, but I've got this same problem and it's very annoying. I've searched high and low on this site and others but haven't found even a suggestion for debugging this issue.

FWIW, I currently have my desktop set up (through compiz) to display the gnome main menu when I right click the desktop.

If I turn this setting off, the problem seems to go away. So this would appear to narrow things down to a compiz problem, but where to go from there?

Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks!
