View Full Version : [ubuntu] Hmm, hard drive will not boot on its own

Hello everyone,

I've just install Ubuntu 8.10 onto my laptop. I'm going to post the specs of this PC to help all of you out:

Compaq Presario F761US
AMD Athlon 64 X2 at 1.9GHz
GeForce 7000m/610m
MCP67 Chipset
160GB HD

That's enough info there...

Now every time I boot and even shut down, the hard drive will not be active if I am not holding down on a keyboard button.

For example:

Whenever I am booting, if I leave it sit there, the bar will keep on constantly stay in the same place when it is supposed to go back and forth; and the hard drive has no activity. But if I press on a keyboard button (like the spacebar), Ubuntu 8.10 starts booting and the bar starts bouncing across my screen. This only happens when the orange bar is bouncing. When the bar is filling up, or loading, it works fine...

What do you all guys think of this issue? I've never had this problem in Ubuntu 8.04.

It's a bit of a problem. I have all the drivers/kernels installed, and they are up-to-date.

Thank you all!

Taylor Jasko

By the way, I have all the updated software/drivers. I even tried the pre-release. Something is different in this build of Ubuntu...
