this is the link to a terminal code to remove stuff from your 8.04 install.
http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/purexfce
The way I understand how its written,unclear..., is that this removes
Gnome components so you have XFCE pure and no Gnome BUT are still running
Ubuntu and not XU or others. I have a hybrid right now I guess of Gnome and XFCE.
I want to KEEP Ubuntu only and try the fastest setup for XFCE that I can do.
If these commands work, is there a simple way to restore completely without
trouble if I dont like it.Thanks

Executing the first command in the psychocats link would remove Gnome and install XFCE. If you anyway want to use it, make sure you do not interfere the xubuntu-desktop metapackage & dependencies installation or you may have an unusable system.

And if you remove Gnome, please do that before you install xfce, as xfce does use some gnome components.
