Ok, I read through the posts about this topic that I found:
-I created the icon cache
-I did the find trick
-I installed preload (works great with my other apps)

I have a dualcore with 2 Gigs of RAM. What can I do to get the frickin icons into mem before I open the menu.
I can still here the windows and mac folks in our company laughing at me.
Is there a bugreport filed. Did anybody find a solution for that?

Specs of the PC? GPU?
Preload does not cache menu items, so wouldn't help much.

CPU: 2.0 GHz Core 2 Duo
GPU: NV 140 M 256 mb
Ubuntu: 8.10

This issue has been plaguing me since Ubuntu 5 but with this machine it's really annoying as I think it should be capable of more (even Vista shows the Icons on Menu Open).

As I mentioned above:
I tried the icon-cache thing, didn't work.
I tried the trick with using find to get the icons faster loaded, didn#t work.
Preload didn't work either (you mentioned the reason above).
And I found several posts that hint that there are several people plagued by that problem.
