I have two machines in which I am trying to install UBUNTU 8.10 and replace Windows XP. I'm new to Ubuntu. I downloaded the desktop version and run the install. I checked the disk and it checks out ok. Windows is still installed on the HD. I want to remove it completely but want to make sure the 8.10 install works first. Both computers are experiencing the same issue. The install asks for a lang, then the menu comes up. I select install. It eventually brings up to a linux prompt. When I reboot the machine into Ubuntu, same linux prompt. Am I missing something or are there other install procedures to do? I'd like the computer to boot right into the desktop version. Help!

What do you have: the Live CD or the Alternate CD?. Burn the iso following this guide:

Do md5sum, burn at 4x or less as 'image' not 'data'. Do not use CD-RW
