Trying to install ubuntu 8.04 LTS.
It freezes when it gets to the screen after the loading bar.
ie. I am able to click install from the first menu, then it shows the loading bar that first bounces back and forth for a bit and then starts loading like a normal loading bar, and then the once it gets to the screen after that nothing shows up, I see the background but even after a few minutes there is no change. There is no black screen, just the background and thats it. The mouse icon goes from an X to a normal mouse icon but I am unable to control it with my mouse. (it is a USB mouse)
I also tried this after removing EVERYTHING except the video cable from the back of my computer(keyboard, mouse, every usb component) and it still freezes at the same time.
Some help would be appreciated. I also tried installing ubuntu 8.10 but that ALSO simply would not install, so "try to install 8.10" isn't really an option for me.

core2duo e6600
ati x1800
2 gigs ddr2 ram
